Paul

"Paul" - Oil on canvas

1000mm x 500mm

I painted this portrait of Paul Hutchinson for the Wai Portrait Awards

I first met Taranaki artist Paul Hutchinson when buying one of his exquisite miniature paintings on-line about four years ago. I have always had great admiration for the realist painterly style of his art, and I soon found him to be very helpful, generous and encouraging to me as a fellow artist, which is why I asked him to be my subject for the Wai Art Portrait Awards.

I chose this up-close and personal composition to accentuate his aesthetically interesting face which I feel reflects his long personal struggle as an artist and a life well lived. I am grateful to Paul for agreeing to be the subject of my portrait, and I thank him for his generosity and trust.

Wow this portrait is absolutely stunning! You have really captured something
from within your subject, the eyes and face tell a story. You are very talented!

I saw this painting at the Portrait awards and it was by far my favourite piece.
Inspiring and beautiful.

Wow! What a mesmerising 'life-like' piece!.
To me you have an amazing,
creative, artistic gift. I love checking in from time to time to see what new
pieces you have created & I'm always so surprised, as you're constantly
challenging yourself to 'mix it up' ~ always looking for new mediums with which
to create your 'works of art'. Always evolving. So skilled in delivering an
imaginative palette of paintings. Now that's a true artiste!. Thank you for
sharing...
