Girl with a Greenstone EarringI drew this portrait "Girl with a Greenstone Earring" as my own New Zealand 21st century interpretation of Johannes Vermeer's painting "Girl with a Pearl Earring" (circa 1665)

I wanted to inspire the same questions that I wondered about when I first saw Vermeer's work, ie:  What is she thinking as she stares out at us? Is her enigmatic expression innocent or knowing? Wistful or serene? Vulnerable or seductive?

This portrait was drawn using pencil, charcoal and pen.
